Where to start with eBooks? The eReader...
updated 1/11/2017
There are three basic levels of eReading devices now: a smart phone; and eReader; and a tablet.  eReaders include the e-ink Kindles, Nooks, and other brands that are black and white, and work very well in bright light.  The tablets include the Kindle Fire, the Nook Color Tablet, and the iPad, among others.  All tablets have screens that are similar to a computer screen, which does make them difficult to read in bright light.

If you are looking for an eReader, check out this review page on cnet.com.
