Plant a Seed, Read at Baker Free Library! Learn all about gardens and farms, seeds, and plants, and the insects and critters that visit our growing spaces. Sign-up for your program below beginning Friday, June 19.
Once you’ve signed up for the Summer Reading program, visit the library to pick up paper copies of your reading record or Book Bingo challenge card. Throughout the summer, you can enter our prize raffle below:

Summer Reading Kickoff Party & Farm Animal Petting Zoo
Stop by the library for our Summer Reading Kick-Off Party on Friday, June 19! From 4:00-5:30pm, activities will be available throughout the library to celebrate this year’s theme: Plant A Seed, Read, including a Farm Animal Petting Zoo! Visitors will have the chance to meet with chickens, ducklings, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats and lambs, right in front of the library. All ages welcome. Registration for Summer Reading begins at this event, but will be open all summer long.
Ready, Set, Grow! Magician Mike Bent’s Magic Show!
Using hilarious comedy, amazing magic tricks, music, sound effects and riveting storytelling, Magician Mike Bent’s Ready, Set, GROW is designed to showcase books alongside positive, inspirational messages. This all-ages show is perfect for the whole family. Come enjoy a night of fun, laughter and magic at the library!
Mike Bent was named Bent “Best of Boston” by Boston Magazine and won the 2009 “Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Award” for “Boston’s Best Children’s Entertainer.” From 2005 to 2016, he made ten appearances at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, and even opened for former President Obama and First Lady Michelle! He is also the author of “The Everything Guide to Comedy Writing” and teaches comedy writing at Emerson College in Boston.
Prizes
Grades Pre-K Through 6
We will choose one raffle winner from each grade, every single week. Raffle winners will have their choice of prizes from anything available in this year’s Summer Reading prize basket. Available prizes include planting kits, flying butterflies, slime and dough, vinyl stickers, books for all ages, and an assortment of stuffed animals! The more reading you do, the more raffle tickets you’ll earn.
All readers who complete at least 10 books or 10 hours of reading this summer will automatically win a free 1-hour jump pass to Altitude Trampoline Park in Concord, NH! No raffle ticket required.
Teens & Adults
Earn one raffle ticket for each reading challenge completed, and five bonus tickets for every Bingo! Weekly drawings will be held for gift cards and giveaways from local businesses.
